Most things that we do, we run through what I like to call a "Failure Filter".
We play out various scenarios in our minds and then we usually do them based on our likelihood to succeed.
If we are likely to succeed, we go for it.
If we are likely to fail, we usually do not go for it.
Now, this is a smart and logical approach to most things. Why do something if you have a high likelihood of failure?
That's like saying, " Yeah, I know I need a parachute for skydiving and the likelihood of surviving without one is very low, but I think I'm going to go ahead and skip it..."
The Failure Filter keeps you out of trouble and safe...most of the time.
But the Failure Filter can become corrupted by fear...and a lot of fear is illogical.
"Should I go out for that job?"
"Should I ask for the guy or girl's number that I like?"
"Should I start that business I've always been dreaming of?"
In all of these scenarios the resounding answer should be "Yes", but what happens often, is the "Failure Filter" gets in the way.
Me: "Failure Filter, Should I go out for that job?"
Failure Filter: Of course not, you got rejected the last time you tried and therefore YOU WILL get rejected again. Do you really feel like being embarrassed again?
Me: "Failure Filter, Should I ask for the guy or girl's number that I like?"
Failure Filter: Of course not, you got rejected the last time you tried and therefore YOU WILL get rejected again. Do you really feel like being embarrassed again?
Me: "Failure Filter, Should I start that business I've always been dreaming of?"
Failure Filter: Of course not, you failed the last time you tried and therefore YOU WILL fail again. Do you really feel like being embarrassed again?
Do you notice how the Failure Filter sounds almost the same each time? The fears that have accumulated from past failures work their way into the Failure Filter and
keep you from logically making a decision.
The same can be said of Baby Elephants.
Elephants are powerful creatures and can knock over houses and uproot trees with ease.
When an elephant living in captivity is still a baby, it is tied to a tree with a strong rope or chain every night. Because it is the nature of elephants to roam free, the baby elephant instinctively tries with all its might to break the rope. But it isn’t yet strong enough to do so. Realizing its efforts are of no use, it finally gives up and stops struggling. The baby elephant tries and fails many times and eventually gives up.
Later, when the elephant is fully grown, it can be tied to a small tree with a thin rope. It could then easily free itself by uprooting the tree or breaking the rope. But because its mind has been conditioned by its prior experiences, it doesn’t make the slightest attempt to break free. The powerfully gigantic elephant has limited its present abilities by the limitations of the past—-hence, the Baby Elephant Syndrome.
Failure in the past makes you think that you will fail in the future.
But this is simply not true.
Believing that you will NOT fail gives you greatest hope of success in the future.
Having the confidence to believe that you will be successful is the greatest tool to ensure victory.
It is the thing that makes you even attempt to win.
You cannot ever hope to win if you never "shoot your shot".
You do not want to let your entire life go by because you are too afraid to try.
DO NOT BE A BABY ELEPHANT I repeat, DO NOT BE A BABY ELEPHANT
This is why I have created the Never Fail, Subliminal.
It helps you believe with all of your heart that you will not fail. It will help you feel positive about all projects and be certain of their success.
Will you be successful in all things that you do?
You will in some areas and in others you may not, but what is certain is that you will not be so marred by fear that you will not attempt to try.
So I revisit the question from before:
What would you do if you knew that you could not fail?
Answer: Probably EVERYTHING
