Everyone has been hurt by someone at least once in their lives. Some things happened years ago and others may have just happened yesterday. Either way when someone hurts us, it is natural be angry and upset.

Yes, it is human and okay to be angry and upset. However, holding onto to the anger for too long can fester into unforgiveness.
Unforgiveness can be detrimental to our health, both physically and mentally.
A wise man once told me that by not forgiving someone for wrongs they committed against me, I was harboring hatred for them. Holding all of that negative emotion inside is like drinking poison everyday wishing for someone else to die.

The negativity caused by unforgiveness is real and may spill out into relationships you have with other people.
You may be treating other people coarsely and unjustly just because you are harboring anger and hatred towards someone else.
That's right. If you are holding onto past hurts committed by others, then you are indirectly hurting yourself and maybe even those around who have NOT wronged you.
Many people think that forgiveness makes them weak, because they believe that it means that whatever was done to them is "okay".
Nothing can be further from the truth. Forgiveness just means I choose to let go of the pain and stop suffering because of it.
Forgiveness does not make the other person right, it just sets us free.
Of course, we should not only forgive other people for mistakes, we should forgive ourselves for the mistakes that we have made as well.
Everyone does wrong sometimes, but if you are beating yourself up for mistakes you've made in the past then it's Time to Stop.
Not forgiving yourself can be even worse than not forgiving outside people because now all of your hatred and rage is directed back at you. A double whammy!
